CURRENT EVENTS:

On April 26,2005 the Opportunity was sent to go onto a 295 foot trip on Mars when it was trying to get over a foot-high sand doon when it sunk hub deep into soft soil when the wheels stopped moving.

Engineers spent weeks giving the robotic cruiser commands to free it but the manuvers took time. The rover moved very little at a time traveling less than a foot in one month, losing most of its traction every time it tried to roll. On May 4th data showed that the Opportunity was free and had moved several feet across the dune.

Mexico’s Volcano of Fire has had 6 incredible eruptions in the last 3 weeks, shooting ash, and lava covering the local town Colima.

The latest eruption, Monday, shot lava 3 miles above the volcano’s crater showering Colima with ash. Docters handed out masks to keep people from breathing in the gritty substance. Luckily no one has been seriously injured in these recent events. This has been the largest eruption since 1903 when there was over 200 explosions in one year. Scientists are concerned that an eruption like the one in 1913 will happen again in the upcoming decade
