Research
from the University
of Florida
has show that one type of bacteria from earth could survive the trip to Mars.
It is known that five minutes of the ultra-violet light on mars will kill all
bacteria; but if the bacteria are protected by 1 mm of Martian soil, it could
live up to one day. The study also showed that some activity can last for
several hours after bacteria have died. This activity is what scientist looks
for as indicators for life on Mars. Scientist and Mars mission planners need to
find other evidence of life to be sure that what they have found are not
bacteria from earth.
This
event is important because it’s dealing with astronomy and matter in outer space.
In relation to science this event opens up new possibilities of life on Mars.
