- Joseph
Black was born april 16th, 1728 in Bordeaux
- He had
8 brothers and 5 sisters all taught how to read english by there mother
- Joseph
left home at the age of 12 and went to belfast with his relatives to study
latin and greek
- In
1744 at the age of 16 he was enrolled at Glasgow University to study arts,
then his father pursued him to do something more helpful so he chose
medicane.
- In
1752 he moved to Edinburgh to do further study on medicane
- In
June of 1754 he presented his inaugural dissertation “on the acid humour arising
from food and magnesia alba”
- In
1756 he went back to glasgow as a profesor.
- In
1756 he begun his teachings at he age of 28 as a profesor of anatomy and a
lecturer of chemistry
- 1766 he
succeded Cullen to the chemistry and medicane chairs he then went back to
Edinburgh
- Many
students followed Black when he moved back to Edinburgh
- What
was said to believe was impossible Black did, he got a gas combine with a
solid
- Joseph
was considered the “FOUNDER OF CALORIMETRY”
- His
most important contribution to science might be that he told about his
findings without rference to his Pholgiston theory.
- Joseph
Black wasn’t ever really healthy, he was suffering lung problems from his
childhood infections and rheumatic problems in his later life.
- Later
he became a vegetarian and suffered from Vitamin D deficiency.
- He
died november 10th,1799 sitting in his chair at his home in
Edinburgh.
- He was
buried in Greyfriars Churchyard.
