Applying Biology to Solving Real-World Problems

Murder in a Science Laboratory! Case ID# MJ-56298

How terrible! Joe Griffin has been murdered in a biology laboratory while working on his cat dissection. See if you can sort through the evidence left at the crime scene and bring his killer to justice!

The Scene
During spring break of his senior year, Joe had come in to continue work on his dissection for Anatomy and Physiology class. He had been sick the previous two weeks and didn't want to fall too far behind. He was a good student, and since the administration and janitorial staff were going to be at the school working all week, they didn't have any problem letting Joe come in to catch up. When Joe hadn't left Wednesday afternoon, the last person to lock up, a secretary, went to check on him. She found him lying on the floor of the lab in a pool of blood. She immediately called the police and ambulance to come and help. When they arrived, they pronounced Joe dead. Homicide detectives took fingerprints and collected as much evidence as they could find at the scene. The following is a list of items placed in evidence for examination:

The Suspects
There are three major suspects in this criminal investigation.
Susie Peterson-Joe's ex-girlfriend. Joe broke up with Susie two weeks prior to his death. Her friends say she did not take well to being "thrown away" by Joe, as she puts it. She swears they were going to work things out and get back together again; after all, they had promised to go to prom together.

Bradley Agnew-Joe's lab partner. Bradley is a lazy student who didn't work on the cat dissection at all during Joe's absence from school. He seemed upset that Joe was putting so much effort into his work; Bradley felt Joe made him "look stupid."
Mr. James Strafford-Joe's baseball teacher. James is a typical high school coach-he likes winning. Joe was his star baseball player until he took sick. James has been overheard blaming the team's final losses and inability to compete in the state tournament on Joe and his recent illness.
